I pay my humble respects to all our forefathers who gave us this proud legacy to bear and thus an opportunity to share my views on Growing Popularity of Indian Medicine.

The world of today is scientifically, technologically, educationally advanced and the developments around us are in leaps and bounds. While Communication Technology has reached its peak of performance and efficiency and has shrunk this vast world into a palm-top; Science has leapt many light-years and have started to explore opportunities in the Universal Space beyond.

The greatest Think-tanks of the globe have reached their Peter's Plateau and on these cross-roads, they are surprised to note that their so-called inventions and innovations are just re-discoveries of what our great forefathers have recorded in their Vedic Scripts. More astonishing is the fact that while this rapidity and advancements have brought Global Warming, Incurable-unfathomable diseases, environmental deterioration, Space Pollution & even threat of extinction as the by-products & side-effects; the inventions and methodologies of Indian Vedic Scholars have been without all this negativity.

• Our sages have been able to establish wireless contact from Mind to mind without spoiling the Ionosphere and without puncturing the Ozone layer.
• Our Seers have been able to create Pushpaka Vimana - the marvel of engineering technology without polluting the environment
• Our Acharyas like Aryabhatta & Bhaskara introduced 0 and decimal system to the rest of the world. Albert Einstein said that "without India the world would have been devoid of the knowledge to count"
• Our astronomers were able to mathematically calculate the distance between Earth and other planets; the mass of earth; mass of Sun; time for revolution of earth, Sun and other planets; eclipses to decimal precisions without spending on space voyages and research institutes. It would be surprising to note that they had mastered the art of letting their mind travel the space to find the truths.
• Our Charaka Samhita and Susruta Samhita talk about cosmetic Plastic Surgeries when the rest of the world was declaring that "Rats were born from rotten bread"

The Scholastic world of today is looking back to the Indian pages of Medical Scriptures. As a Learned Scholar rightly: "Gravitation was known to the Hindus (Indians) before the birth of Newton. The system of blood circulation was discovered by them centuries before Harvey was heard of."

The four main Vedas are the Main Scriptures and the Treasures of Knowledge. One veda of the four deals with the branch of medicine and Tantra called as Atharvana veda. The Medicinal branch of Atharvana Veda is called Ayur Veda meaning the science of life which is said to have the prevention, treatment and cure for all the diseases under the Sun. Fathers of Indian Medicine Charaka & Susruta in their literary works have explored this Veda and have set the bible for Indian Medicine. The Presiding God for Ayur Veda is Dhanvantri - the incarnation of Sriman Narayana who emerged from the milky-sea on Churning with the "Amrit" - the eternal life Potion - Symbolically representing long-life.

Modern day methods of "treating symptoms" gives us a mythical air of cure and eventually lands in re-infection and re-treatment. The chemicals used in this sort of a treatment causes side-effects and the 'patients' parade to the medical practitioners for years together for treatment of the chain reactions.

The essential difference in Ayurveda is the methodology of the treatment. While Allopathic treatments concentrate on symptomatic therapy, Ayurvedic therapy focuses on the root-cause of the disease and treats to set-right the cause. As the great Tamil Poet Thiruvalluvar Quoted - Ayurveda deals with analysis of the disease, Finding its root-cause and treating the cause.

The time taken for a cure in this Ayurvedic System will definitely be longer in comparison to the Allopathic systems but it is a wholesome cure and the Revisit Quotient to the Physician for the same disease is near to Zero. This is the main reason that many of the neo-professionals in the medicinal field resort to Ayurveda -our Indian medicine for the time-tested long-lasting cure.

The most -important reason behind the growing popularity of Ayurveda that acts as the magnetic force of attraction is that Ayurveda treats Body & Mind as a whole-some unit. Yoga, Medidation, Anointings, Herbal cure, Hygiene-specifications, Dietary Regulations, the tri-dosha management - the management of vata, pittha and Kaba takes Ayurveda to reach Himalayan Heights.

The Intelligentsia of the globe has realized the uniqueness and effectiveness of Indian medicine. It is in the hands of this generation of ours to understand the value of the legacy inherited by us - appreciate its wholesome beauty, preserve its richness and pass it on to the generations next to bring back peace, health and harmony to this world. Let's re-pledge ourselves towards this goal so that we have our heads high on our shoulders when we say:-
